Experience, Discover, and Share in Our Dream!
The Foss Waterway Seaport celebrates Tacoma’s rich maritime heritage—past, present and future. Located on the historic Thea Foss waterfront in a century-old wheat warehouse (listed on the National Registry of Historic Places) known as the Balfour Dock building, the Foss Waterway Seaport is where history actually took place! It is one of two remaining wooden warehouses originally built in 1914 to accommodate cargo arriving by rail and departing by sail, square-rigged ships during the early years of Tacoma’s history.
The Foss Waterway Seaport is Puget Sound’s maritime heritage, education and event center where families, students and entire communities come to discover, explore, work and play.
Activities Include:
* Marine Science Programs
* Event/meeting Space
* Maritime Heritage Exhibits
* Heritage Working Boat Shop
* Guest Moorage
* Waterfront Esplanade Walk
Our new exhibit The Puyallup People: First on the Waterways, is an exhibit exploring the history of the Puyallup People and their intimate connection to the Salish Sea and the Puyallup River.
While we have many wonderful exhibits currently on display in our museum, the Foss Waterway Seaport is continuously developing exciting new exhibits – check back with us as we expand.
